Spot the mistake....

How can it happen - I finished this quilt a couple of weeks ago - had it laid out on the guestroom bed and kept popping in to admire.  Was delighted - then suddenly last Thursday  - shock horror -I saw TWO ERRORS!  Two glaring mistakes - of course I could not live with them, so Sunday afternoon was spent unpicking - never easy when the borders are all on neat and tidy - and then reversing my mistakes and putting it back together again - in the right order:
Here are the errors:
Two half square triangles reversed and two rows of squares not alternated.
And here it is fixed:
I just cannot believe that I did that, and never spotted it.  At least I could fix it before it went off to Butterfly Quilters for the long arm quilting!  To have only noticed after quilting would have been a huge disaster.

I also have made another baby quilt:  lots of fun fabrics again:
Yesterday was so beautiful down here in the West Country:  so off I drove towards the North Cornish coast and delivered my "fixed" quilt and two baby quilts to Carole at Butterfly for her to work her magic!  I shall show you again when they have been long-arm quilted.  The drive there was lovely, blue skies and sunshine - just had to make sure I missed the many pot-holes that seem to be everywhere on the roads - having wrecked a tyre in a pot hole at the end of last year I am now extremely aware of them - there are just so many!

I am also thrilled that I have finished my first Scarlet Letter sampler for Nicola's Challenge Year:  my Log Cabin is built and will be off to the framers within the next few days.
The border on this sampler is so lovely - I am really pleased with the end result.
Now I have the big decision as to which SL sampler I shall sew next.  I also have several other designs on my "to do" list.  I am also just finishing off an Easter Runner and will post that next time.

So once again the fingers are never idle, and there are never enough hours in the day.  But what would we do without our hobbies - they fill me with joy and a wonderful sense of achievement.
Here's to the next quilt and the next sampler!

  1. I'm so glad you caught your mistake on the quilt before it was off to the quilters. Although I thought it looked fine with mistakes. It's a beautiful quilt -- I love the fabrics! I love that baby quilt as well. Beautiful! And congrats on finishing the Log Cabin Sampler -- I just love it! I really want to order that chart. My SL list is just too long. lol!

  2. Well done on your finishes Angie. It is tempting to just leave a mistake be but I think that I would have repaired it too. If you had quilted it and not noticed well then it has to be lived with. At least you noticed it in time. The cross stitch looks lovely. I have managed to scratch the bumper and pull it away a little trying to avoid a pool of water in the lane to my friend, inadvertently I scraped past a pile of heavy duty gravel she uses for potholes. Duh! That little escapade is costing me £200 to repair. The potholes are shocking.

  3. so glad you spotted the mistake on the quilt! Lots of my quilts have 'humility' blocks, let's just say I have never had to make one on purpose! Love the SL log cabin sampler too, another one for my never ending wish list...

  4. Mistakes on placing pieces of fabrics have happened to me many times. Now, I always photograph the block before sewing it... don't know why but the mistakes appeared more clearly when seen through my camera!! Even for tiny things such as which way I put the seam allowance. In the block I am stitching now by Yoko Saito, thanks to my camera, I noticed that I had the seam allowance of the bottom of the roof going downwards toward the right-side wall and it gave the impression that the wall was covering the roof. I immediately pushed the seam allowance the opposite side (towards the roof) and it was better with the roof seeming to go over the wall!
The mini-quilt and the sampler are both gorgeous!!! Looking forward to seeing the quilts quilted and the sampler framed. Have a good day.

  5. I've admired your sampler as a WIP a few times on Nicola's Scarlet Letter Year blog.
Lovely to see it finished. It is beautiful.
Your quilt is gorgeous. I followed the trail to find the pattern and found Nel Whatmore.
    Her fabric lines are fabulous.
